It's Thursday evening, you're halfway through a conversation in WhatsApp, and you remember the car insurance renews on Friday. You could switch to a reminder app, find the date picker and set an alarm. Or you could type "Remind me Friday at 9 to renew the insurance" into a chat you already have open and get a message back on Friday morning.
The second option is what people mean when they search for a WhatsApp reminder bot. (Reddit's RemindMeBot is something else entirely. This post is about WhatsApp.)
TL;DR: WhatsApp has no built-in "remind me at this time" feature for personal chats. There are three ways to add one: Meta AI, an unofficial bot linked to your own number, or a bot running on the official WhatsApp Business API. The third route keeps your own account out of it. Vyneron uses that route, and reminders arrive in the chat with buttons to complete or snooze. WhatsApp is included in the 7-day trial and on paid plans.
Can WhatsApp remind you on its own?
Not today, as far as we can tell. Meta's WhatsApp Meta AI page talks about solving a math problem and finding a restaurant the whole group chat can agree on. It doesn't mention reminders, tasks or scheduling (we checked on October 12, 2026).
WABetaInfo did spot a reminder and "Tasks" section for Meta AI in an Android beta, version 2.25.9.14, marked as under development. We couldn't find an official announcement that it reached everyone. Until that changes, people use bots.
Three ways to get a WhatsApp reminder bot
| Route | How it connects | Risk | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meta AI (built in) | Already inside WhatsApp | n/a | Reminders aren't on Meta's feature page; seen only in a beta |
| Unofficial bot on your number | You scan a QR code and a WhatsApp Web library (Baileys, for example) runs your own account | Automating the regular WhatsApp app violates Meta's Terms of Service, and the number can be banned | The bot acts as you, from your number |
| Official Business API bot | You message the bot's number like any other contact | Your own account isn't automated | Free-form replies only within 24 hours of your last message; after that, only approved templates |
The risk in the second row comes from YouGot's setup guide, which says plainly that automating the normal app breaks Meta's terms and can get the number banned.
Several ready-made bots take the official route. RemindMe Bot lets you set a reminder by forwarding a message. It collects your phone number, time zone and reminder count, and deletes each reminder after delivery. YouGot sends reminders with WhatsApp as one delivery channel, with a "Nag Mode" on its Plus plan. TaskRio works in a direct chat or a group and says it is free forever for personal use. Any.do offers WhatsApp only on paid plans. Premium is $4.99 a month billed yearly or $7.99 billed monthly, and the free Personal plan doesn't include it.
To build your own, n8n has a workflow template that wires WhatsApp to GPT-4 and Google Sheets.
Setting a reminder in Vyneron, step by step
Vyneron runs on the official route, so you message our bot and never hand your own WhatsApp account to an app.
- In Vyneron, open Settings → Integrations → WhatsApp.
- Connect one of three ways: tap the "Open WhatsApp" link, scan the QR code, or send
LINK-<code>yourself to +90 542 187 88 10. The code is valid for 10 minutes. - Write the way you'd text a friend: "Remind me Friday at 9 to renew the insurance." That becomes a task with a due date.
- For something that repeats, say so: "Every Monday at 8, remind me to put the bins out." That becomes a routine, and routines can skip public holidays (more on that in holiday-aware routines).
WhatsApp goes through the same AI engine as our Telegram and Slack bots. You can create tasks, notes and routines from it, and search your own tasks, notes and files. Ask "what did I write down about the plumber?" and it looks through your notes. For the wider picture of running tasks from WhatsApp, see WhatsApp task management.
The buttons, and the 24-hour window
Meta's rule for business messaging shapes what a reminder looks like. If you've messaged the bot in the last 24 hours, the reminder arrives as a normal message with three buttons: Complete, +2h and +1d.
Outside that window, we're only allowed to send a Meta-approved template. Those reminders come with Complete, +2h and a button that opens the task menu, but no +1d button.
The templates are approved in six languages: English, Turkish, German, French, Spanish and Russian.
Limits worth knowing before you connect
WhatsApp is text only. Voice notes, photos, documents and videos aren't processed. You'll get a short notice instead, at most once every 24 hours. If a photo or video has a caption, we read the caption as text, but the file itself isn't saved. Voice and photos do work on Telegram (@VyneronAIBot) and in the web app, where we transcribe speech and read text from images. Managing tasks from Telegram covers that side.
WhatsApp isn't on the Free plan. You get it during the 7-day trial and on the paid plans: Solo, Multi and Enterprise. Connecting your own API key (BYOK) doesn't turn it on. After the trial, the Free plan keeps unlimited tasks, notes and routines, plus Telegram and Slack, 50 files and 500 MB. Solo costs $6 a month or $59 a year. Founder is $39 a year, a locked-in Solo price for the first 250 people. Multi starts at $12 a month for 2 to 3 users. More on keys in bring your own API key.
Some countries are restricted. Meta can limit business messaging in certain countries. If that happens to your number, we remove the connection, tell you, and point you to Telegram or the web app.
FAQ
Does WhatsApp have a built-in reminder feature?
Not for personal chats. Meta's Meta AI page doesn't mention reminders, and the feature spotted in an Android beta had no official release announcement when we checked.
Will an unofficial WhatsApp reminder bot get my number banned?
It can. Bots that link to your own account through WhatsApp Web automate the regular app, and YouGot's guide notes that this violates Meta's Terms of Service and can lead to a ban. Bots on the official Business API don't touch your account.
Why didn't my reminder have a +1d button?
It arrived outside the 24-hour window, so it came as a Meta-approved template with Complete, +2h and a task menu button.
Can I send a voice note to set a reminder?
Not on WhatsApp. It only processes text. Use Telegram (@VyneronAIBot) or the web app for voice, or type the reminder.
