Notion Pricing in 2026: The Plans, and the Three Things That Aren't in Them

Notion's plan table has four columns and looks straightforward. The invoice at the end of the month often isn't, because three costs sit outside that table: metered AI credits, a custom-domain add-on, and the way Notion counts paid seats.

The plans

🔴 Read the billing toggle before you read the prices. Notion's plan table defaults to yearly, and the toggle says "Save up to 20% with yearly." So $10 and $20 are the annual rates, not the month-to-month ones — pay monthly and you should expect to pay more.

How much more, Notion doesn't say on the page: the monthly figures are injected by the billing toggle rather than printed in the page itself, so there's no month-to-month number to quote. We're not going to reverse-engineer one from "up to 20%" — "up to" isn't an equation. Flip the toggle, or check the amount at checkout, before you assume $10 is what you'll pay monthly.

What the money buys

Enterprise extends page history to unlimited.

For most small teams the upgrade decision isn't made by the feature list — it's made by the upload cap. 5 MB per file is a limit a single full-resolution phone photo can exceed. Paid plans go to roughly 5 GB per file. That's the jump people actually pay for.

The per-head price is not the total price

Notion AI and Custom Agents

Notion AI is a limited trial on Free and Plus, and included on Business and Enterprise. So far, so simple.

Custom Agents are metered separately: free to try, then $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits. That's consumption billing. You don't know what your team used until they've used it, which makes it the hardest line to forecast on this page.

Workers (Beta) — the piece that lets you extend Notion with your own code — is currently free to try and starts consuming credits on 15 October.

Custom domain

Running a Notion site on your own address and removing Notion's branding costs $8/month per domain paid annually, or $10/month per domain paid monthly. Note that this is one of the few places Notion prices monthly and annual separately and explicitly.

What that adds up to

A five-person team on Business, with one custom domain and moderate AI use, starts at 5 × $20 = $100/month for seats, plus $8 for the domain, plus whatever the agents consume. The $20 per head is where the calculation begins, not where it ends.

How Notion bills seats — the part that catches teams out

This mechanic surprises people more reliably than anything else on the page, so plainly:

• Adding a member mid-cycle: they take an unused paid seat if one exists. If not, your paid seat count goes up by one and you're charged prorated for the remaining days.
• Removing a member: you get no credit back. The seat stays usable until the end of the period and can be reassigned to someone else.
• At every renewal, the paid seat count is reconciled against your actual member count.

The practical consequence: churn costs you money inside the current period but corrects itself at renewal. If people rotate through your workspace, reassign the seat rather than deleting it — you've already paid for it either way.

Guests remain free. A guest sees only the page you invited them to, not your teamspaces in the sidebar. For working with agencies, clients, or contractors, that's the cheapest route available, as long as you stay under your plan's guest limit.

Cancelling and refunds

Cancellation runs through Settings → Billing → change plan, on desktop. After cancelling you keep the paid features until the end of the current period.

Notion's refund windows:

• Monthly billing: full refund within three days (72 hours) — or 14 days in the EU and UK, where consumer-protection rules require it.
• Annual billing: full refund within 30 days.
• Accidental member charges: prorated refund within three days of the invoice date. (Notion states the monthly window in hours and this one in days. It's the same length expressed two ways, not two separate deadlines.)

If a payment fails permanently, the workspace is restricted and then downgraded to Free rather than deleted. Your content isn't destroyed because a card expired.

One line for anyone at a school or university

The Plus plan is free for students and educators, limited to one member. Notion states that thousands of school domains qualify, not just .edu.

If you have an academic email address, check this before any purchase decision. It removes the 5 MB upload cap and triples page history, for nothing.

Is Notion good value?

It depends on a question that has little to do with price: how much of the construction kit will you actually use?

Notion is priced as a platform, and as platforms go, $10–20 per head is reasonable — it can be a wiki, a CRM, a project tracker, and a public website at once. If you genuinely use three of those, nothing at this price replaces it.

If what you actually needed was tasks, notes, and a few files, you're paying for flexibility you'll never exhaust, and still hitting the 5 MB cap. That's the case where the bill feels wrong even though the price is fair.

That bracket structure is the sharpest contrast with the seat mechanics above. There's no prorating, no lost credit when someone leaves, and no reconciliation at renewal — you pick a bracket and that's the bill.
