Is Amazing Marvin Free? What You Get Before Paying

Vyneron Team·

Short answer: no, Amazing Marvin does not have a free plan. Marvin's own pricing page says so plainly — asked whether there is a free tier, the answer is "not currently."

What you get instead is a 14-day trial with full access and no credit card, and after that a single paid tier. That is the whole structure. There is no permanently free version, no feature-limited starter plan, and no ad-supported mode.

But "no free plan" isn't the end of the story, because Marvin has two ways to pay less that it doesn't put in front of you during signup. Here is the full picture.

(Every price below is from Amazing Marvin's official pricing page; the feature names come from Marvin's homepage. Pricing pages change — confirm at the source before you buy.)

What the Free Trial Actually Includes

Marvin's trial is unusually generous compared to the feature-limited "free plans" you see elsewhere in this category, and it's worth understanding why.

  • Length: 14 days.
  • Access: full. Not a stripped tier — everything is on.
  • Credit card: not required to start.
  • Extensions: Marvin says it can extend the trial if you need more time. You have to ask.

That last point matters more than it looks. Marvin is a deep app — the company advertises over 100 features and more than 300 customizable settings — and the entire pitch is that you tailor it until it matches how your brain works. Two weeks is not much time to do that. If you hit day 12 still fighting the settings screen, asking for more trial time is the intended path, not a favour.

What Marvin Costs When the Trial Ends

There is exactly one paid plan, Marvin Pro, and it includes everything. No feature gates, no per-seat upsells, no AI add-on.

  • $8/month, billed annually — charged as $96/year.
  • Marvin advertises "Save 33%" for choosing annual over month-to-month. The page leads with the annual figure. If you want the exact month-to-month number, check the billing toggle before you commit — working backwards from a 33% saving lands around $12, but Marvin doesn't print that figure next to the annual one, so treat it as arithmetic rather than a quote.
  • Included: unlimited tasks, custom workflows, analytics, apps on Mac, Windows, web, iOS and Android, and personal email support.

The Two Discounts Marvin Doesn't Advertise at Checkout

This is the part worth knowing before you rule Marvin out on price.

Students get 50% off. It isn't a checkbox in the signup flow — you email contact@amazingmarvin.com and ask. That takes Pro to roughly $48/year.

There is a pay-what-you-can policy. Marvin's stated position is that it doesn't want finances to stop you using the app, and it asks anyone who can't afford the standard rate to reach out. There's no form and no published floor. You email and explain.

Neither appears in the checkout flow, which means the people most likely to need them are the least likely to find them.

What About Refunds?

Marvin doesn't offer standard refunds. Its position is that the 14-day no-card trial exists precisely so you don't need one, and that it will extend the trial rather than refund a purchase.

That's a defensible trade, but it changes how you should use the trial. Don't treat it as "look around and decide later." Treat it as the evaluation. If you buy the annual plan and change your mind in week three, the money is spent.

So Is Marvin Worth Paying For?

Marvin earns its price for a specific kind of person: someone who wants to configure their way to a working system rather than adopt someone else's.

The feature names give you the flavour. Super Focus Mode, Task Jar, Procrastination Wizard, Accountability Pledge, Spotlight, Day Planning, Pomodoro Timer, Time Tracking. These aren't a generic checklist app's features — they're behavioural interventions, and Marvin lets you switch each one on or off until the app matches your actual failure modes. It also supports several whole workflow styles: day planning with time blocking and capacity estimates, list-based layouts (Kanban, vertical, grid), a spontaneous mode built on Orbit and Spotlight, and full GTD.

If that sounds like exactly what you've been missing, $96/year is not much for it, and the trial is long enough to find out.

If it sounds like a second job, that's the real cost of Marvin, and it isn't measured in dollars. The customization that makes it powerful is also why some people churn in week two. We went deeper on that trade-off in Amazing Marvin for ADHD.

If You Specifically Need a Free Plan

Some people searching "is Amazing Marvin free" are price-shopping. Others genuinely can't pay, and the honest answer for them is that Marvin isn't the tool unless the pay-what-you-can route works out.

One thing worth knowing before you look elsewhere: "free plan" means very different things across this category. Some tools mean free forever, with real limits. Some mean a trial with a countdown attached. Morgen, for instance, lists no free plan on its pricing page today — just a 14-day trial and then paid tiers, structurally the same deal as Marvin's. (If you've seen a Morgen free tier referenced somewhere, those references predate the current page.) We checked that one separately in Is Morgen Free?.

For the broader landscape, we compared five options side by side in The 5 Best Amazing Marvin Alternatives, flagging which ones have a genuine free tier rather than a countdown.

Where Vyneron Fits

We build Vyneron, so weigh this section accordingly — but the free-plan question is the whole reason you're here, so here's our answer to it directly.

Vyneron's free plan is free forever, not a trial. Tasks, notes, routines, and the Telegram and Slack integrations stay unlimited on it. Storage is capped at 10 files / 50 MB, and AI is included for your first 7 days.

The unusual part is what happens on day 8. Instead of the AI switching off, you bring your own API key — a free Gemini or Groq key works — and keep AI running at 0% markup. You pay the provider directly, not us, and on a free key that's $0. This is available on every plan, including the free one. More on how it works: Bring Your Own API Key.

Paid is Solo at $6/month or $59/year: 150 AI messages/day, unlimited voice transcription, 500 files / 2.5 GB. There's a Multi workspace tier for teams and families, and Enterprise above 26 users. All of it is covered by a 14-day money-back guarantee — an actual refund, not a trial extension.

Where Vyneron genuinely differs from Marvin: capture happens inside Telegram, so saving a thought is messaging a bot you already have open — text, voice note, or photo. For a lot of people with ADHD that's the whole ballgame, because the task you never captured is the one you never do. And recurring routines are holiday-aware worldwide, computed in code, so a weekly routine never lands on a public holiday.

Where Marvin genuinely wins: depth. Nothing in Vyneron matches 300+ settings and a Procrastination Wizard. If configurability is the thing you want, buy Marvin.
