No, Motion is not free. The AI planner at usemotion.com has a free trial and then a paid subscription, and its pricing page lists no free plan at all.
Search results mix several products with this name. This post is about Motion the AI calendar, task and project app. Motion Array (video templates), Apple Motion (Apple's video effects software) and the various free step-counting apps called "Motion" are different products.
What the pricing page shows
We checked usemotion.com/pricing on October 30, 2026. It lists two plans, Pro AI and Business AI, each with a "Try for free" button. The page says: "Start your free trial. Risk free. Cancel anytime."
There are two tabs, "Individuals" and "Teams", plus a billing switch between "Pay monthly" and "Pay annually (Save 33%)". The tab and the billing setting both change the price you see, and that is where most of the confusion comes from.
| Plan | Price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Pro AI, Teams, billed annually | $19 per seat/month | Motion pricing page |
| Business AI, Teams, billed annually | $29 per seat/month | Motion pricing page |
| Pro AI, Individual, billed annually | $29/month ($348/year) | Independent price trackers, Sep–Oct 2026 |
| Pro AI, Individual, billed monthly | $49/month | Independent price trackers, Sep–Oct 2026 |
| Business AI, Individual, billed annually | $39/month | Independent price tracker, Sep–Oct 2026 |
| Business AI, Individual, billed monthly | $69/month | Independent price tracker, Sep–Oct 2026 |
The $19 figure you see quoted everywhere is the team price, per person, on annual billing. If you sign up alone and pay month to month, independent trackers put Pro AI at $49, more than double that. Check the pricing page before you start a trial.
Pro AI includes AI Chat, AI Projects & Tasks, AI Calendar & Meetings, AI Docs/Wiki/Notes, the AI Task Planner, an AI writer, unlimited storage, iOS, Android and desktop apps, integrations, and 7,500 AI credits per person per month. Business AI adds team capacity planning, advanced dashboards and reports, Timeline & Gantt views, time tracking, permissions, centralized billing, priority support, and 15,000 AI credits per person per month. If you run out of credits, extra credits cost money.
How long the trial lasts, and whether you need a card
Most reviews say the trial is 7 days. The pricing page doesn't state a length.
On the credit card question, sources disagree. Some say you need one to start, others say you don't. We couldn't confirm either way, so look at the signup screen before you enter anything.
Why people get charged after the trial
Some users on Trustpilot describe the same few surprises: being charged for a full year upfront once the trial ended, an annual plan renewing without a warning they noticed, and refund requests being turned down.
We can't see what each reviewer had selected, but the billing switch is the part you control. If the annual option is selected when you start the trial, the first charge can cover the whole year. So before you click "Try for free":
- Decide whether you want monthly or annual billing, and check which one is selected.
- Note the date you started. If the trial is 7 days, set a reminder for day 5 or 6.
- Look at the signup screen for a card field and the amount it says it will charge.
How to cancel before you're billed
Motion's help pages say that if you cancel before the trial ends, you aren't charged.
On desktop, go to app.usemotion.com, open your profile menu, and choose "Cancel Plan". If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel it in that store instead.
Motion's help page adds two more points. Cancelling does not trigger a refund automatically: purchases are non-refundable, though Motion may grant a refund at its discretion. And if you subscribe again later with a different email, you get a new account, and your old data doesn't come with you.
Who Motion fits
Motion's core idea is to auto-plan your day: it takes your tasks and places them into the open slots on your calendar. If you have a long task list and want software to decide when each thing happens, that is the feature you're paying for. Of the tools below, Reclaim is the closest match.
If you mostly need a list, reminders and a calendar view, you'll be paying for scheduling you won't use.
Free and low-cost alternatives

Where Vyneron fits
Vyneron is the app we build, and it does not auto-schedule like Motion. A task goes on the date and time you give it, and Vyneron reminds you then.
It does have a free plan with no end date. The first 7 days are a trial with no card required and 50 AI messages a day. After that, your tasks, notes and routines stay. AI turns off unless you connect your own API key (BYOK), which works on every plan with no message cap; you pay the AI provider directly. Telegram and Slack reminders and push notifications keep working on Free. Email reminders and WhatsApp don't.
You can add tasks by text, voice note or photo through @VyneronAIBot on Telegram. On paid plans and the trial, you also get a one-way iCal feed to Google, Apple or Outlook, and routines that move off weekends and public holidays. Paid plans start at $6/month or $59/year for Solo. Multi is priced by group size, not per seat: $12/month covers 2 to 3 people.
FAQ
Does Motion's free trial need a credit card?
Sources disagree, and the pricing page doesn't say. Check the signup screen before you start, and note which billing option is selected.
Is there a Motion student discount?
It isn't on the pricing page, and third-party sites contradict each other. Ask Motion's support directly before you pay.
Can I get a refund from Motion?
Cancelling doesn't refund you automatically. Motion's help page says purchases are non-refundable, though it may refund at its discretion. Cancelling before the trial ends means you aren't charged at all.
Is the free fitness "Motion" app the same thing?
No. Free step and fitness apps named "Motion" are separate products. This post covers usemotion.com, the AI planner.
